It's a great opportunity to learn everything you've always wanted to know about the police, law enforcement, and criminal activity.

Attendance and Curriculum

Participants must fill out an application for admission and be at least 21 years of age to participate. After a screening check, applicants will be advised if they have been accepted to the academy.

Class topics include: recruiting and hiring practices, legal issues, gang information, narcotics investigations, traffic crash investigation, crime scene investigation and many more interesting law enforcement subjects. Another evening is spent at the firing range getting acquainted with the members of the Tactical and K-9 teams. Police participants are generous with their time and are willing to answer questions.

The classes are held once a week on Thursday nights from 7-10PM at the Carrollton Police Dept, located at 2025 E. Jackson Road. The sessions are interactive training and include demonstrations as well as class participation in scenario situations. You must be 21 or older, a Carrollton resident, work in Carrollton and have no criminal convictions other than traffic tickets. All materials are provided and there is no cost for participation. You do not have to attend every session, however, a minimum of 70% attendance is required for graduation.

How Does Citizen Police Academy Benefit Citizens?

The Citizen Police Academy acquaints and educates residents of our city to the duties and responsibilities of their police officers and how you can help keep our city safe. We feel that doing this in a classroom setting with Carrollton Police instructors is the best approach.

Graduates of the Citizen Police Academy also make up the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association. Alumni are involved in on-going projects and events involving the department and the association itself. The Citizen Police Academy is also the gateway to participate in our Police Department volunteer programs such as Citizen Patrol. You can contact Sgt. G. Putnam at 972-466-9123 if you have any questions. Applications are being accepted now and after a background check you will be notified if you are selected for the class.
